After a long wait due to the coronavirus, the 2022 Olympics is finally set to take place in Beijing next year. Many look forward to the games every two years and have often been referred to as the greatest spectacle in sports. The Beijing Winter Olympics has a lot of things that sports fans should be excited about next year. So what should newcomers look forward to when it comes to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
The winter Olympics will be held from February 4th to the 20th of 2022, and the following winter Olympics will be held four years later in 2026.
There are fifteen events held across seven significant sports. Athletes will compete in biathlon, ice curling, hockey, and luge, to name a few. Various skating events will also occur, such as figure skating, short track, and speed skating. In addition, multiple types of skiing events will also take place. Those skiing types involve alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, ski jumping, and snowboarding.
History will also be made at this year’s Winter Olympics as they are set to feature the first-ever single women bobsleigh in history. There will also be new skiing events such as freestyle skiing, big air, and mixed team ski jumping in addition to groundbreaking events.
The 2022 Olympics is also positioned to be more gender-balanced than any other Winter Olympics in history.
Like any other Winter Olympics, some stars are sure to bring extra interest and intrigue to the Olympic Games.
The Chinese will be highly dependent on Gu Ailing Eileen for its medal chances in freestyle skiing. As far as the Chinese hope for a medal in the team short track, the spotlight will be on Wu Dajing to lead the charge.
Norwegian native Johannes Thingnes Boe is being looked at as a favorite in the biathlon competition. In terms of alpine skiing, Mikaela Shiffrin continues to be one of the favorites. She is in hot pursuit of the record in World Cup victories in alpine skiing. She will have competition from rival Chloe Kim.
